Wasn't someone on here thinking about doing some welding of bumpers for this year's new rules? I would love to get Jonah's bumper set for the season. Thanks!

Yea I was thinking of doing some add on hoops, but after talking with Karl decided to just make the whole bumper, basically just a Bergfelt copy, 3/4" 1/16 wall, pretty simple, just need your mount mesurements and how wide you want it, you can call me at 707 297 1864 and we can get you fixed up, I have no idea what I should charge for these though. I'm thinking $50/$60 bucks, all mine are done and I have a tip for getting those Emmick plugs out if you have the allen head set up

I'll take at least one bumper (maybe another for just for road racing) if you think you can make it to Dixon on Saturday. Let me know and I'll be sure to bring enough cash.

Uhh Brad,, Aint that a Margay? I have no jigs/as in old bumper for reference, all my stuff is Emmick or similar, had the same problem with Mark and his Biriel, (over the phone and internet pictures) over enginered Italian stuff, hope I got something that will work for him but I really need your old bumper to do this right, which I will most likely not give back as I will continue to use it for a template for when you need another, unless of course no one is able to get up on your back bumper then you may not need another, but somehow I dont see that happening this year, see you saturday, bring your bumper, I'll have a few 24"/48" Emmick set ups and a KT 100 yellow fin engine for sale, gotta pay my club dues dont ya know!

**************** A-T-T-E-N-T-I-O-N *************** For those racers that choose not to have a Race Car that doesn't resemble a concession kart and can afford too spend a little more that the minimim.....please continue reading.....
For anybody that might be interested in a "custom bumper", we debuted ours at Dixon on Sunday and can offer it for still less $$$ that its plastic counter part. It is fully adjustable in width from 45" to 55" and has replaceable end loops. Optlional mounting methods are also available. The first Outlaw Series race at Kinsman is said to be a "grace" race for bumpers. We figure to have units there for viewing, or, you can call Hal @ 530-933-8749 for info.

OK brad yours are done, that 20 degree margay set up uses a bit more matierial, and I thought it needed a brace so I added them, looks as if they will hold up well, but time will tell, so in other words welcome to my R&D department. I have a feeling these new bumpers are going to take a beating out on the track so in the spirit of the clone I'll keep them on hand and affordable. and for those that already have one of my bumpers please give feed back so I can improve on them,

You know I've got to ask about this. My sons 2009 Top Kart cadet came with extended loops added on. My question is:- the plastics ones - do they even really do anything compared to wide metal ones? I've not been in race so not talking from experience but would they not just get pushed into the rear tire and pop right off their spring clips? Seems like the metal ones would transfer and absorb the impact much better.
I've got an Intrepid and old Top Kart with regular bumpers and am just contemplating. I actually have some tube benders and welding gear myself (so I know which is cheaper for me!) - but still wanted to get the opinions of your well-trained collective knowledge. Seemed like a lot of the TaG guys practicing at Dixon had the plastic.

Tag guys have more money, plastic is prettier, Joe Nationalracer won a race with a plastic bumper, all of these are reasons why TaGs have plastic on them. Metal is fine.

Plastic is....."Plastic"! There is certainly NO advantage to it over a tube design for the racer. The advantage goes in favor of the manufacture/marketer in the money category. Plastics are cheap to produce in quanity, where by, quality tubing cost $4.50-$5.00/ft regardless of qty, and....each unit still requires the same cutting, fitting and welding. Our new "Forgiven" bumper design requires 12 ft of tubing alone. You be the judge....what looks better; the cookie cutter concession kart "Plastic", fixed displacement add-on, or....our custom made chrome-molly, adjustable "Forgiven" rear bumper unit....at a 'competitive' price?

Look at it this way, what are the barriers these days made of? yea I remember the hay bails or tire barriers, nothing nice if I remember correctly, might be one of the reasons my memory aint what it use to be, if you have a habit of brake checking someone an injection molded PE bumper may be the way to go, they bounce back after a good hit, although backing it into a barrier at speed may leave you looking at the rest of the race standing on the side of the track, same with the metal bumper, is one better than the other? thats matter of opinion and check book, whats in your wallet? and whos on your bumper?

I like the idea of steel bumpers more than plastic but my concern now is ease of taking it off. Both my stand types are demanding on my rear bumper.
Stand One (Kart Kaddy) need to lift rear of kart onto it by grabbing the bumper (thus needs to be good one handed grip on it to lift). BUT in order to put in tilted transportation position it will need bumper removed (as stand holds the rear axle).
Stand Two (scissor type with hooks) I need to stand the kart vertically on its rear end to get the stand under it and flip it up onto the stands wheels. Am sure plastic would take that abuse also.
Mike.

Yea I've heard the plastic are a pain to lift, as far as removing the steel ones I'm making they bolt up the same way as the original, one person that bought one last weekend said it fit perfect and worked with his scissor lift, seemed satisfied, but we'll see how they hold up on race day. there built IKF spec but metel dosent spring back like plastic. so I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
