So who's going?
Dan confirmed camping at the track is available Friday and Saturday nights. If work permits I hope to arrive Friday night so I can test the new axles, etc. on Saturday.

I'm planning on heading up Saturday morning. Expect to be there around 11. The only thing that could screw up my plans is the phone system from HELL that I've been working for what seems like forever that goes live on 5-16-14. If things go totally off the rails there is a possibility I may have to deal with some crap on Saturday. If so, I'll either head up Saturday night or do the truly manly thing and arrive and drive on Sunday morning and kick everyone ass with zero practice and zero setup changes from Monterey. Please note, that last comment was made due to the sorry lack of crappola talking that has occurred lately on this board. Truly shameful and I'm embarrassed for you guys.

Brad, you are hilarious. Send that kart up in advance, if you can't be here Sat. We'll dial it in for you, making it the equivalent of an indoor kart facilities biggest POS. After a bit of tweaking, we'll have it pushing like a dumptruck, and trust me, the gearing & jetting will be right too.

I;m planning on coming up. I'm playing with my band in Mountain View on Friday evening, plus we'll likely be in a "oh crap we missed the release date ... again" crunch at work, so I suspect no testing on Saturday .... but I'm planning on getting there sometime on before the race. Today is axle change day !
Bev Ban has reserved a block of hotel rooms for the the NorCal shifter guys, so if anyone wants a hotel rather than camping, then let her know. She made the offer to include us in the block booking for the races where we're all be there.
Simon.

After a bit of tweaking, we'll have it pushing like a dumptruck, and trust me, the gearing & jetting will be right too. First off, I appreciate the offer Dan. However, you may recall that I already received my dumptruck driver’s license after the last day race at your fine facility. Achieving the slowest laptime of any NFRA driver that day is one the highlights of my racing career. As much fun as that was, I think I need to file that under the “been there, done that" category. If I were to send my kart up there prior to my arrival I’m pretty sure one or more of the following would occur…. Simon would bring his generator along, ostensibly to power the NFRA “party light” for our Saturday night activities. Unbeknownst to anyone he would also pack his microwave in the cab of his truck. I’d arrive to find my tires nuked to the point I’d have 4 rock hard raisins mounted on my wheels. Ron would file a brief with some bogus legal authority in an effort to get my kart impounded (at a location unknown, of course). With the SKK being the home of our fuel specialist Jeff, I’m sure I wouldn’t have any gas in my tank since we all know he doesn’t believe in sending a kart onto the track with an appropriate amount of fuel (see his grandson last year). Failing all that, in an effort to get the Mexican Federales off his back from his multiple, at machine gun point border crossing encounters, Rich would give away me my kart as a bribe. Nawwww, I think I’ll just bring my kart up myself…but thanks!

I am coming on up Sat morning. I need to put in some seat time. It will be nice to drive fast without a machine gun being pointed at me.
Dan, I think Brad is just being a little sensitive. Go ahead, in your best fatherly voice offer suggestions to get him to the level we ALL want him to be
What track# and direction?

Rich, we'll have the gates open! As for the 9 kart, and his "i'm slower than everyone else" rant, one would think he should be up on Thursday? We've all been there as rookies, given enough time, tuning the kart out of contention, but he's a grizzled vet!
As for the track, it's #1, counter-clockwise, and 5 passing points (7 if you can really drive)on the 50-something second lap track. The route is past the start/finish line, around 1 & 2 (great passing point)then into the infield at turn #3 (a drag race passing point) and single file through 4 & 5, then onto the long straight. Play w/ the rev limiter "point" here, there are gains w/ gearing through the turns. As you get onto the straight, the dog-leg double turn 6 (end of the straight) is all about a free kart that maintains the highest speed to make a pass here. Turn #6 is a great over/under passing point if someone does a slide job inside, you can overtake them coming back to the north. Another drag race returning to turn #7, inside position is everything, but it you do, turns 8 & 9 allow the over/under move here, hooking the wheels on the inside of the curb @ the oak tree. Then it's a big sweeper into 10 (and if you maintained speed through the oak tree, another passing point) you'll be rolling down hill, and able to make a clean pass. Turn 11 & 12 are slight kinks, not much there, but if you hit it right a passing point again as you roll it, and head to the scale shack towards #13. Turn #13 exit speeds sets up passing points at the finish line, or back in to turns 1, 2, & 3.
This was our track selection for the Nationals a few years ago, great racing, and zero red flags over 4 days produced a bunch of smiles. Boys, it's all about chassis tuning, so free karts are critical. To refer back to Brad's previous whine, his woes started w/ a kart that couldn't roll the corner. After a few changes, the next visit was far more fruitful. Point is.. All you guys can drive, but the kart set up is key. If someone does get a run on you,the track is wide enough for 2 karts to maneuver side-by-side around the entire route, so give them enough room, then have some fun with it!
See ya soon

I am not sure what I will be doing. We start Playoffs on Saturday, May 17, 2014, and this last Saturday at the baseball field my head coach suffered a massive stroke. Our team right now is emotionally struggling. I also have no seat or engine on my kart. I have not done anything since last season.

Sorry to hear that, Ron. Let's do the right thing.....call off the game, in honor of your ailing coach, then bring the team with you. We'll entertain them!

Hey now, just to set the record straight, I wasn't whining. I was just stating the facts that I already mastered the dumptruck class and I sucked that day. It isn't like I was complaining about always starting in the outside row or how mean the KC is....now THAT is whining!

Thanks Dan, In what has to be a NFRA record for sharing track information you left out one thing. Starting point for gearing? My lack of proper record keeping is only surpassed by my whining about starting on the outside row at Atwater. Ask anybody!

Hey Rich gearing is top secret I took all the #s off so you can count all the teeth when I am doing the skk duties. Ya might make sure I am full of fuel at the same time.

Sorry guys, been stupid crazy busy at work and just forgot to look at the board lately. Going to Sonoma Raceway this weekend for the Formula 3 Grand Prix driving school. I fly back from Anaheim on Friday night the 16th but I'll be heading up to Redding early Saturday morning. Rich helped me with my clutch problems so that's shored up (I hope). Thanks Rich. Rest of the maintenance is done.
Dan, I'll definitely need some tuning help (both engine and chassis). When I looked at my tires tonight, I noticed the fronts had a lot of wear on the inside (possibly excessive camber). A quick check with the Sniper shows the front is pointed straight ahead and pretty much straight up and down. Anyways, we can check it out when I get there.

Rest of the maintenance is done. WHAAAAAT!?? Obviously you have not read the NFRA bylaws....in part, "any driver or team that fully prepares their kart before arriving at the track before a race weekend shall be sanctioned. Punishment for the first offense shall be to provide beer for all NFRA members and their groupies (for the driver of the #14's posse) and nancho cheese Doritos (for the driver of teh #19) for said race weekend." Trust me, you don't want to know what the penalties are for the second offence.
