So where is this coming from? I was sitting out at the track this weekend and I started thinking about tires. Ks are on their way out, Ls are coming in as far as the official rules are concerned. Kind of got irritated that this is the second year in a row the "offical" WF tires have changed in the middle of the season.
I starting thinking back to the F200 days and remembered how nice it was to have a couple of compounds to pick from. Since we run our own rules I started wondering if it might be a good idea to look at some other options for tires. If so, why not the Burris tires? Scott paid $190 a set delivered to his door with tax. I paid more than that for my Ks and I had to go get the d**n things. LOL
If we all ran the same tires (F200 and WFs) maybe down the road we could also get a really nice deal on a big buy?
We also talked about looking at some other tires as well. But then we get into the whole time/expense of testing other products. At least Burris is a known quanity.
Whatever we do. we need to decide it pretty quick. Some folks need new tires for Reno and need to get their orders placed quick.
Oh, and as Scoots pointed out, Burris is American made!

One question. How often do you switch up compounds? Are we going to need to bring a set of both to every race?

I have never used the 55,s, but I have used the 6.1s on the rear and have lost the ability to late brake as late as I like too brake in my F200. My bill for 4.5s and6.1s was 193.41 to my door in two days. The 7.1s are less than $1.00 more, each. Be American, buy American! I think you only need the 44,s with a diromiter number about the same as the old YHC tire you used to run back in the old days. (three years ago) I think you'll like how thay stick out of the gate too.

One question. How often do you switch up compounds? Are we going to need to bring a set of both to every race? I've never run Burris tires on my WF, obviously. ;D But, when I used to run them on my F200 it basically worked out like this. Early and late in the year I would run 44s for the extra grip. During the hot months, when I would typically get over stuck, I'd run 55s. I VERY rarely ever brought both tires to a race. However, it was nice to be able to have an option if conditions were up in air.

Yeah they wear pretty good. I would always count on at least 3 races on a set back in the F200 days. WFs might be a touch less demanding on the tires when compared to a F200. After that they work as good practice tires. Not as much grip as new tires but predictable.

Brad is right about the wear. I drive mine hard. I keep rears three or four races and replace the other end every two races. It's hard to out quali. fresh rubber. I don't practice much on my race tires but practice on retired race tires. Is that info helpfull? Hope so--

So I'm guessing the suggestion to allow Burris will pass, so the next question is .. what compound would you suggest I buy for the Reno night race ?

Now THAT is an excellent question Simon! If it were a day race I'd be inclined to say 55s. However, being a night race, and it will be relatively cold by time we race, I'd say 44s. I ran 44s at the last night race and it was definitely the way to go. I'm pretty sure everyone else was too. The real question becomes air pressure. There was over a 10 pound difference in cold pressure between the kart that lead most of the race (by more than a straight away advantage) and the kart that ultimately won.
If you get 44s they should work very well at Dixon as well. After that we are talking the end of Sept at PC so they will likely be the tire of choice for the rest of the year.

Is it safe for me to assume the tire change proposal passed and Burris will be legal from now on ?
... just checking !
