I can't call it race #2 as you can't have #2 if there wasn't a #1.
Anyway ... 3 weeks to our Atwater race. What is everyone thinking for accommodation ? Camping or Hotel/Motel ?
I have never been to Atwater, so I have no idea what the options are.
Discuss ....

Simon- it's a wonderful track, the banked sweeper is similar to a big speedway, but technical through the infield. Atwater opened up the backside of the facility last year, so camping should be fine, but might want to make sure & ask the board.

I was planning on camping at the track in the pits like we always do there. But Dan brings up a good point, we should confirm with the track officials that it is OK.

Ok, camping sounds good. Brad, are you going to contact the club to check that's ok ?
Dan, the track looks a lot of fun, I'm looking forward to it ! I have been learning the layout watching other people's youtube helmetcam videos. Gearing is going to be interesting.

Ron, looks like the bookies really DO know what they are talking about on the over/under, eh? Jeez. Simon, I don't know any of the current board members but I shot off an email to Chip so he should be able to either give us the scoop or put me onto the right person. Regarding gearing....talk about compromise. You gear for the straight and you will be a dog through the technical part. You gear for the techno part and you will be on the limiter before you get to the left dogleg on the straight. Bring your 50s gears for this one....

Brad, any idea what a good compromise gear would be for a clone?

Mark-that is a real good question. It depends on if they will be running the clones on the whole track or if they are going to cut off half the straight like they did last time we raced there. During the GR in '10 they went with the half track for the clones which was a real shame. No drafting at the end of the straight, cut off the best corner of the track (one of my top 2 of any track we race at ), definite bummer. I'll find out what their plans are along with gear ratios.
I did hear back that it is no problem to camp on Saturday. ;D Speaking of Saturday, isn't that when you guys play your games Ron? They aren't playing Sunday games in LL nowadays are they?

This just in....clones will be running the FULL track. Good starting gearing would be 16-57/15-53. Chip says it could go up to 61.

Brad, I was hoping they would let the clones run the full track. Also, thanks for the gearing information.
Simon, Do you have a link to the helmetcam video for Atwater? I've never been there and it would be a great help.
I'm planning on camping there too.

Let me check my exhaustive track notes...oh wait, I don't keep those. OK to the best of my recollection I ran a 15-58 or 59. I think I would have gone to a 57 but the 58/9 was the lowest I could borrow. I've since picked up gears specifically for the Atwater track. What I'll probably do is wait for Simon to settle on a gear and then just add 2 teeth as always. ;D
