First and last race of the year for me.
I'm thinking of avoiding the Friday crawl and leaving early Saturday. I plan to spend the night at the track. What have y'all done in the past?
Given recent events it might be useful to caravan up and/or back.

I think most (if not all) of us are planning on heading up Sat morning. Caravaning might not be a bad idea. Rich and I usually do that when we head to Redding. I assume you and Simon would head up 505? Maybe we could meet where it junctions into 5? Isn't there a rest are just past that point?
Or, if you or Simon want to break up the trip, and leave later on Friday to miss the worst of the traffic, either or both of you are welcome to bunk at my place. I'll probably be out in the garage working on my kart till pretty late so time isn't an issue.
On another Redding trip note I've been talking to Jeff from SKK. They plan on smoking the TTs during the race day and eat right after the race. He said they have been wrapping things up by 2 so we should still be able to get a decent start on the way home.

I will go up tomorrow, October 11, 2012, and tune, test, and prepare for the race.
I have multiple sets of new tires for testing to determine the optimal tires for the race day. I will bring both engines to test and tune. I anticipate putting in about 400+ laps of practice in before race day so that I am better prepared.

Somebody hacked into Ron's account again. Ron, you really should chnage your password.

OK then.
Back to the topic. I started reassembling the kart today. Were there any changes compared to last season (e.g. catch cans) I need to consider?
What gearing have you all been using at Redding?

I *think* you are supposed to have a safety cable between the pedal and the master cylinder (in case the rod falls off, or the clevis fails), but I'm not sure if that's enforced at all tracks. I hacked something together just in case. I don't think there is anything else you need beyond last years rules.
Last time we were there I ran 15/64 gearing, but this years trend seems to show that at most tracks running lower gearing and suffering the rev limiter for longer on the straight actually give quicker lap times. The straight at Redding is VERY long, but this year we'll be running in reverse so will be entering the straight off a slow hairpin, so I think lower gearing will be required.

A few other things to respond to ...
- Caravaning up - yes, I go up 505, so we could meet in Dunnigan. I might not be able to go as fast as you guys though (so what's new?) so I'll need a 20 minute start !
- Food on Saturday night - I don't have room for my grill, but why don't we buy some of those single use/disposable BBQs and cook up some meaty goodness ? Not sure where to get them from though.
- Food Sunday morning - I could bring a loaf of bread and a couple of packs of bacon and if Brad couple bring his propane stove we could do bacon sandwiches for breakfast
... or we could just dine out.

I will have a small propane grill (1'x2' or so). Same one you've seen before. I will also have a coleman and the 4-burner stove in the camper. Breakfast burritos perhaps? A single pan meal.
Dunnigan is good. If we are just meeting and going the 2nd exit (Co Rd 6, #556) is a good one. If you want to eat then it's the truck stop (1st exit, Co Rd 8, #554) or meeting in Williams.

I'll bring the eggs (dozen should do, right?) and a pound of Jimmy Dean. Can someone else bring the tors, cheese, onions and/or whatever else?
Second Dunnigan exit sounds good. Time? 10?

I'll bring eggs too. I have the tortillas and filling covered.
I'm in need of tires. Stickers aren't required but would be nice - assuming we stick with Burris next year.

Fronts are not very good. Rears I have maybe two sets that look good. It appears food is more than covered. Is there anything else needed that I can bring? I don't eat much on race weekends but I am more than willing to bring something. What about beer? What beer do you like?

I know. I'll bring some chips (pringles different flavors), cookies such as Vanilla Wafers (because Rich and I like them) and some others, and some assorted nuts (other than myself). These can be eaten throughout the day, night, and day. Any requests let me know I will go to the store tomorrow.

How bout coffee and a couple pots? I can bring that stuff. Tireswise, I've got one set with a race and a practice on them. I was planning on using them for practice but you are welcome to them if you'd like. I can just practice on my race tires. By race time they will be like a 3 race old set but I've won on old tires like that before and plan on doing it again. Ron, what's up with your beer question? If it says beer on the outside and there is beer on the inside, isn't that enough said??? MLOL
