I was thinking about the discussions we had regarding tire options for the 2013 season. I just came up with an idea.
I noticed through the year that I typically had problems more with my front tires wearing out in a single race day. Some of the old fronts I had would not make it through a second race day. I would never run new front tires, with old rear tires. As a result I would get a new complete set of tires.
If I had the authority under the rules to change tires to another old set of tires during a race day I would run the old tires from a prior race, knowing that I would put another old set of front tires on to finish the day.
I think Rich had more problems with rear tires. I would run new rear tires with old front tire, but don't know if other racers would. I think the same option of replacing old rear tires with another set of old rear tires during the race day would work in this scenario too.
Under both of these scenarios, as long as we elect to stay on old tires (not change to new tires), and replace with old tires, we should be able to get some more racing out of the tires without having to continuously buy complete new sets of tires.
Just a thought.
