I have both and had the plastic on the shifter for a bit but it makes getting it on and off [my] stand a pain so I took the old narrow steel one and welded on hoops. I could make a steel one for my WF or use the plastic. Looking for anyones comments. Anything particularly safer about either?

I personally do not like the plastic . I think people use them as a springboard. They also know if they hit the plastic hard it will not hurt their kart much. But if they see a steel bumper it could cause some damage so they back off.
Also picking up a kart with a plastic bumper can be challenging. Especially for those of us with a hurt back, and extra lead added to the kart to get everything up to 390.

I actually decided to scrap my old Top Kart (~1999) today. I took everything off it including the full width steel bumper. I feel I can lift it easier, stand it on it's end without worrying and of course it fits my KartLift without crazy hooks so I am going steel.
I kept some 19mm front axle conversion hubs, fuel tank, rear 40mm hubs and of course my wheels and tires. The ribtect moved to my new kart. I am leaving the axle, carrier and bearings on the kart when I take it to the dump. If definitely worked OK but since the floor pan cracked a few tabs bent I think it is time! Also a driving need to regain space in the garage.
I have an ARC box stock clone motor complete kit (clutch, guard, pump, exhaust, filter, 15deg mount etc.) that has run a few hours. Not sure whether to keep it or sell it. I love the WF - not going back.

Really? Did YOU actually say that?? heheheheeheh

Mike, don't throw away the axle! I'll take it. I still run a 40mm axle on my Emmick and would be a great spare. Also, if your throwing away any 40mm brake hubs or 40mm sprocket hubs, I'll be glad to relieve you of those as well.

OK - I pulled all the axle related stuff off. I'll bring them with next time!
