Hey everyone, so I have an older Emmick with what I think is a SKM rear brake caliper. When I tried to bleed the brakes a couple weeks ago they woulld not build pressure and leaked fluid from behind the brake pad, I assumed from a bad seal. I ordered new seals and put them in today. Same exact thing, pump the brake pedal and never really builds pressure and fluid dripping from the back of the brake pad?
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated,

Some brake systems have an o-ring between the two caliper assemblies, might look at that? Otherwise, did you hone the surface, and install new rubber cups against the pistons? If moisture has accumulated inside the calipers, rust might have formed, creating pits inside the cylinders.

Dan, that's what I was going to say. When the cylinders become pitted they are sometimes impossible to rectify and have race-ready brakes. They could work fine for in the pits or on the stand, but then you put them under pressure on full course conditions and you have issues.
I had an older kart one time with the same brake issues and I decided to simply change the entire caliper out. It was easier than trying to rebuild and I knew it was complete and ready to race.

That was in 2012 when I had no brakes. FYI: I originally typed "with the same brake issues (shut up Brad) and I decided to ...." But I then changing it and left the "shut up Brad" out of the response. I was simply trying to offer some advise to a fellow racer and felt that you would be mature and not respond with unwarranted insults. Apparently I was wrong. All I have to do is look for a bumper now.

I heard Tractor Supply was offering used railroad tracks in the welding department, 48" cut-to-size....just a thought. For ballast, of course.

Ryan - I used to run a 2003 Emmick Venom with the SKM rear caliper. It was called the EVO1 and is no longer produced or available from SKM (as a whole unit). The direct replacement for that caliper is the Righetti Ridolfi Rear Caliper and has the same bolt pattern as the EVO1. If your calipers are pitted (as suggested above), then I'd look into replacing it with the RR unit. Give John at Fastech Racing a call. He is a SKM/RR brake parts dealer and will get you hooked up with anything you need. Righetti Ridolfi Rear Caliper
