Davis ran Race No. 1 with clouds in the sky. We were all optimistic to get through the day but the clouds started misting. On and off through the day drivers raced with some in the rain, and others just on a wet/partially wet track. told my son to race the Jr1Clone carefully as track was cold and wet. Even pumping some air into the tires did not generate much heat. He qualified mid-pack. In the heat he was pushed to the rear, but I had instructed him to drive and focus on finishing. Track action ensued, and my son ended up in second in the Heat. Start of the main had more rain. Pumped up the tires and hoped for some heat. I should have narrowed the rear, but 10 minutes before the race it wasn't raining much.
Davis decided to go straight into the Main with no Heat 2. They just added laps. I wasn;t sure if my son could drive 15 laps, having not raced since July last year.
Main started and he went back to 4th. Some issues ensued and he finished the race in third by being cautious.
Then for a thorough tech. I unfortunately dropped a valve into the head while removing the springs. Next time remember TDC, TDC, TDC. He passed with flying colors thanks to an awesome Crew Chief (I wonder who that is?)
I really wish my kart was welded together for the race as Leo and Steve had a WF battle, with another WF learning the ropes. I helped the third with his clutch to get him abck on the track, but he forgot about the choke. He's lucky he was not wearing an NFRA shirt. He will be looking into the NFRA schedule to see about racing.
