Hello all, I just moved to California, San Jose to be exact. I have been racing Briggs World Formula in the IKF region 6 for the past two years in washington state as well as multiple club races in the northwest. I have been dieing to get back on the track since moving here and so far I haven't had any luck until I found this forum and website. I noticed the last race for the season was october 26th, is there a posted schedule for practice days or other club races anywhere? Thanks in advance, Ive been racing in a few local indoor rental tracks last few months but can't wait to get back on track with my kart.

Welcome aboard BTSSPEC! Can't give you a proper salutation without a name but I'm sure we'll get to that at some point. The club races and practice days have pretty much wound down for the year. However, if you want to REALLY have some fun, bring your kart out to Infineon the weekend after Thanksgiving. Several of us are racing in the NCK race that day on the BIG track. They run the Indy car track rather than the NASCAR layout and the carousel is always good for some serious puckerage!

Steven is the name , Ive never run my 4 stroke on a road course like Infineon before, that sounds like a blast. How tall of a gear do you run on that track? I will look into the NCK race. Are there a lot of 4 stroke racers in california? 4 stroke karts has slowly been gaining popularity in the northwest but still not a predominant racing class. I saw that there is an IKF series in california, region 7, do or any others race in that series?

Well hey Steven, nice to meet ya. Racing on a road course is something HAVE to do, at least once. Nothing quite like 15-20 WFs all buzzing around in a pack. Drafting plays a HUGE roll. If you aren't the leader you have to back off the throttle to around 75% or less or you will be bump drafting the guy in front of you (severely frowned upon by the NCK folks). Gearing is right around 22/64. 4 stokes are definitely on the rise in NorCal. In fact, at some tracks we go to (Redding, Atwater) 4 strokes greatly outnumber the smelly/smokey 2 cycles. All of the tracks we go to have at least some 4 strokes (either 206s, clones, or both).

Hey Steven, welcome and nice to meet you ! As Brad says, we're pretty much done for our season, but if you really want to go racing this weekend, Monterey Bay Kart club have their final club race of 2014 on Sunday. They have a good WF crowd, so you would certainly have people to race against there. www.montereybaykarters.com/calendar.html Most of NFRA lives around the Sacramento area apart from one in Redding, and me .... in San Jose. There will certainly be a few of us going to the NCK race at Sonoma / Sears Point / whatever it's called now ;-) All you need is a 22 tooth driver and off you go ... it's a pretty layed back event and run by a good bunch of people. Shout if you have any questions about the local karting scene, local shops, etc.

Hi Steve
I am "the other Brad", and not currently active in karting but used to be. In the late 70's and early 80's I lived in San Jose, and was the President of the San Jose kart club during that time. Even then there were no kart tracks within a short drive, but within a 2 hour drive you have 5 active clubs that operate tracks. All are listed in the link on the front page of F200.org
IKF (we are Region 11) has had little success in this region, so the clubs have banded together to create their own series with some success. The NFRA stands off to the side, waits for the clubs to publish schedules, and picks from the available races for their own series. The clubs are pretty good at minimizing conflicting dates.
I have been out of the NFRA for two seasons but still consider everyone in the group as friends. If you want to stick to WF this is the place.

Hi Steve and welcome to the NFRA. Paul Viacrucis here. If you need advice or engine building, I can recommend Dan Pellizzari out of Redding, CA. He does most of the engines for us NFRA guys and they are quite strong and reliable. We are pretty blessed to have about 1/2 a dozen tracks within 3 hours of Sacramento in any direction. Your closest track will be Monterey Bay Kart Club in Marina, CA. Its on their airport property and even though the surface is a bit rough its still a fun layout. They also host an annual event there called the Sid White Enduro. The NFRA opened their season at that track.
Perhaps you may want to attend the NFRA awards banquet (usually pizza and beer) and you'll get to meet most of the NFRA guys. Look for the announcement in this forum in the near future.
Welcome aboard and looking forward to meeting you,
Paul
