Hey Guys,
for all you who rebuilt your fuel pumps and carbs ( Atkins Free )over the off season don't forget to prime the system with fuel......
Your Battery will go dead way before you get fuel from the tank too the pump, like me every morming.....
Oh, BW, Brad #9 check the pick-up line in the tank, it my be hard and cracked and sucking air....

Sorry, but it is against my SOP to check those sorts of things until my motor dies on the pace lap for the main event. THEN I know it needs to be replaced!

Brad#9: It is so scary that you and I think alike. Just like when I was at Blue Max and had fuel issues. I changed nothing until it wouldn't run and I ran my battery dead. But then I just got jumper cables to my truck and tried again.

You will feel like you need three hands to do this, but I have done it myself on many occasions...
To prime, you rest the starter on your right hip, crack the throttle open with your left index finger while choking off the carb with your left palm. Hit the button, and you will have fuel at the carb in 3 seconds or less even if you started with completely empty lines all the way to the tank.
The trick is cracking the throttle. Without doing that, you can crank all day and still not get fuel there.

Another options is to pop off the air filter and cover the carb opening with your hand. Only two hand are required for this technique. ;D

Another option is asking those around you, "How do you prime this?" Someone then does it for you because they can prove they are smarter than you. You don't get your hands dirty because it doesn't require you to use your hands.

I spoke with Mike Burris today and he looked over my motor. One of the things that got his attention was that I had tie-wraps around all of my fuel hose connections which he states is a big no-no. They should be safety-wired instead to prevent unwanted air in the line. So I got busy and changed them all over to safety wire. Also, I got a crash course on Tilletson carbs which I cannot stress enough how valuable that was. We actually went through a complete rebuild with Mike pointing out all of the intricacies of how things work and how they go together. Also, he showed me how to set the pop-off without using the pressure bulb tool. Sweeet! I would be more than happy to show anyone interested what I learned. The best part was I did all the work while he stood by and made sure I didn't screw up! Thanks Mike...
See ya'll tomorrow for race day!
