Anyone have recommendations in a hotel in Atwater? One with a hot tube and not much gun fire at night?

Ron normally stays in Merced. A good selection of hotels and only 10 mins from the track. Ron ? Get out your death bed and help Jack out ;-)

Camper is ready so I will practice Saturday and sleep at the track.
Will there be a food truck on Sunday for breakfast and/or lunch?

I seem to remember last year they may have had a grill going with burgers and hot-dogs. I would bring your own breakfast. If no food available, then we can always do a sandwich run, the shops are only 5 minutes away.
Sean from Atwater says there might be some other WF folks coming out to play. Probably not on Hoosiers, but who cares, the more the merrier!

It'll be a tire shootout then. I'm still on the MG Reds.

Courtyard Marriott 750 Motel Dr, Merced, CA 95340 It has an indoor pool and hot tub. My boys usually like going with me for the party at the pool. This year I have a school auction the night before so I will not be going to the hotel. It is about 6-10 miles from the track.

Yup, leave your trailer on Saturday night. Rich, Scott and I will be sleeping at the track so we'll keep an eye on it.
It will be interesting to compare MG vs. Hoosier.
I intend getting some practice in tomorrow, but doubt I'll be there much before 2pm. I still have a fair amount of preparation to do tonight and in the morning.
I'm looking forward to getting the season started !!

Ahhhhh!!!! I just got passed on the left going down the straight. Ohhhh!!!! I drop down behind and pass on the LEFT in the bowl at full speed. Uh OHHHHHH, it's a drag race to the hairpin at full speed because both drivers were able to make their lines stick. Our karts are twitching all the way at full speed. How will it end? !!!!!!!!!!

That sneaky #19 will take advantage (or try to) of that every d**n time.

Ok, the play by play has to go back a little farther. #90 gets a good push on the start from #19 . #90 P1 and #19 P2 going into the first turn. #19 follows #90 around for about two laps. #90 has the gearing to pull faster in the straights but generally sucks big time in the twistys. After purposely playing with the #19 by leaving little gaps open in the corners and then shutting the door after he sees a black nose sticking in there. #19 is now screaming in his helmet. #90 finally makes a big mistake coming out of turn 10 and #19 makes for the inside down the straight. #19 gains the inside before the back kink and has position going into the bowl. #19 is now smiling inside his helmet. #90 reappears on the inside line of the bowl #19 is now surprised #19 then gets mad #19 then realizes that #90 is all twitchy and bouncing down that low in the bowl. Both karts exit the bowl even and at the same speed but with the #19 kart on the inside for the next corner. Neither kart backs off until into the corner. With out any contact #19 scoots thru on the inside. Best three or four laps of the day Because there was no transponders working, and hence no MyLaps. Only people at the race will actually know what the final results were

A fun weekend was had by all.
The gang rolled into AKC on Saturday afternoon, some more promptly than others. Saturday night we ate Mexican food, drank some beer and survived what felt like a tear gas attack from some unidentified source.
Sunday morning Ron appeared bright and early which brought the WF count to 6 (me, Rich, Ron, Scott, Jack and Wayne Bundy). Unfortunately AKC's timing PC had a catastrophic failure half way through qualifying, so from there on we gridded based on our pea pick, inverted for heat 2, and calculated position for the main.
Rich was fast all day (apart from in the first heat when his front right tire deflated slowing him down a bit, but not much !!), There was plenty of action with Mr Bundy being fast with a taller gear than most, but on MG whites on and 7" tires on the back, which made it hard to gauge his true speed. Scott and Jack had some spectacular, blue smoke producing, tire rubbing action heading into the bowl which I thought was going to end in tears, but everyone kept going. Ron made plenty of use of the dirt on the inside of the T1 kink to get past Jack, that was fun to watch from behind.
I had the most fun I have had in a kart for quite a while in the main with the 3 kart train of Scott/Ron/me all nose to tail, all trying different lines to force the issue, but every one of us realizing when we were about to cause something bad to happen and all kept out of trouble.
Did I say Rich was fast ? He won it all and was on fire again.
Finishing order was Rich, Wayne, Scott, Ron, me, Jack (but I think Wayne gets scored in last place for NFRA points for non-compliant tires).
Gearing was once again a mystery, certainly for me.
Clutch inspections were carried out .... more cracked clutch hubs were discovered.
A good start to the season. Jack and Wayne were great additions to the tribe, fun to have around on and off track.
Next stop Redding !

Rich wrote: "After purposely playing with the #19 by leaving little gaps open in the corners and then shutting the door after he sees a black nose sticking in there." I got too cute for my own good. I knew Rich was right behind me, and could not beat me on the straight so I played around with him in the twisty's. I knew what side he would go to, and I gave a 3/4 kart opening for him tight to the side of the track if he tried. As I slowed his nose would come in and I just rolled into the corner knowing I had the best line. I also knew he would backoff because he would not want to wreck and lose the spot. This would happen a few times in the twistys each lap. Then I had a brain fart , either because I was sick, or just got dumb. I blew the entry to the front straight sending me wide and slower. Rich got the jump on the inside. after T1 I dropped behind him for a quick draft and then moved to his left (I still had some gear left). I then popped in on the inside at the bottom of the bowl. I literally got my tires down near the dirt and hoped it would stick. I had old tires and I was wobbling around but I refused to lift. I was ALL IN BABY! As we exited the bowl side by side I was going to wave at Rich. But then I thought taking my hands off the wheel would not be a good idea. I already did something dumb at the start of the straight, let's not F it up at the end. It was fun a fun day. Great driving by everyone. We had many opportunities for some huge wrecks, but we all did a great job. Best race I've had in awhile. (Best race meaning close, not necessarily winning.)
