Sad news to report I'm afraid. I read today that Sam Fries has passed away. Sam has been around the karting world for a long time and was always helping racers out, helping club events run smoothly and his on track commentary was simply the best. He was always such a great supporter of everything we were doing with NFRA, we really have lost one of our own. Sad, sad news ...... I'm sure the whole NorCal motorsports community are thinking of all Sam's family and friends. There is a fund set up to help towards funeral expenses and setting up some kind of memorial scholarship. www.gofundme.com/xf7q6phh9

Oh man, that is a real shame. He was one heck of a guy. Thanks for the headsup Simon.

When I read this I thought it had to be a different person because Sam was so full of life. When I saw his picture I was in shock. it is unbelievable to think that he is gone at such a young age.

I had to think about this for a while before I expressed the usual things you say. Sam was literally one of the first people I met when I got back into karting. He was working at Kartel, and was always there with a greeting and smile. Raced and experienced the clone wars with him. Not always on the same side but always with respect. Benched raced with him in the pits many times and discussed this varied and difuse world of karting in northern Calif. Loved to hear his stories of racing and tracks that we would have not heard about. Took for granted his announcing skills until just recently when compared to a few others we have had to listen to. He will be missed in the karting world
When somebody our age passes it is always a shock. When it is somebody in your personal peer group and part of your community it is a loss. I will miss Sam
