Simon - Don't go buy gears just yet, I have every gear from 53-72 available to borrow until we figure out what you need. If you go buy gears not knowing what you need, you will have a similar collection soon.

10:00 or so, I am stopping at Scott B's house first at around 9, he lives right around the corner from the track.

I'm eager to find out the results of the gearing for the clones, and if the fastest way around the track is to gear for max rpm at the end of the straight. I'm thinking they might not have enough bottom end, and may have to hit max rpm a fair distance before the end of the straight in order to get through the tight stuff, and just use your foot as a rev limiter to not grenade the engine. Of course, it helps to have a nice tach like the Mychron where I set up the gear shift lights (since we don't run shifters) as warning lights in 500 rpm intervals to let me know I am close...

Today, My wife and I just got home from a well needed vacation. She needed the vacation, but it was good for me also. We really enjoyed our time out and alone on the coast. My message is that my sons and I will be at the Blue Max Track next sunday to race. And we are hoping that other clones might show up to race also. Seee you guys there.

It was great meeting you guys today. Thanks for the help, tips and loaner sprocket Brad.
Scott, a digital picture or two of your throttle linkage would be great, I need to make myself one like that. I'm going to look at where my pulse pipe connects as well, I can see some embarrassing moments on the race grid if I'm not pumping at idle.
Ohh , I need to invest in a rib protector too .... I'm hurting from taking a bit too much berm here and there !

Simon ended up liking about 4:1 (15/60) and Scott 3.8:1 (18/65). Scott was about 1 second faster.

Interesting. That's quite a difference in ratios. Of course, Scott has more experience. Where were they hitting max rpm, and what was max rpm?

I started with 18/65 and finished with 18/67. Both maxed at about 5200-5300rpm and gave similar lap times. I had problems with the fuel pump and the clutch comes in too early (it's set for the kids) so these need to be addressed before testing gears again.

That's what I forgot to do, change gears. Oh that's right I got lazy and didn't want to do any work. It was a fun day. Thanks to all for coming out. I am looking forward to a great race coming up.
