OK... When the clutch goes on the crank, should the crank stick out past the clutch by a hair so that the bolt tightens all the way to the crank? Or, the other way around, so that the bolt tights up to the clutch?
The first way would mean there is a slight bit of side to side play on the clutch...

On a Tomar Clutch there should be a washer behind the clutch on the engine side... Was there a washer there? There will be a radius cut in the washer, this needs to go to the engine side as well. The clutch should hang off the shaft about an 1/16th to 1/8th of an inch. The clutch bolt and washer should tighten on the clutch, not the shaft.
