Yesterday, I worked corners at my local track in Redding for the Shifter and 4 Cycle Nationals. The front runners were super fast, and it really helps your race lines to work a corner.
Specific to WF, I noticed that the fastest guys hit the rev limiter about half way down our long straight, or even sooner. So much for gearing for the straight... I noticed as it got to the middle to the back of the pack that they didn't hit the limiter until about 3/4 down the straight.
What's the moral of this story? I don't know... But, maybe it is of interest to the WF guys...

That's where split times come in. If a lower gear ratio gets you off the corners harder and that lowers your overall lap time, that's what you have to do. That is why Tim was so successful in F200, he geared for the turns and RPMs-be-darned on the straights.
