What is the preferred motor mount and clutch for the clone. I went through other threads and I saw 5deg through 15 degree mounts being used.
Whats the deal?

15 degrees guarantees adequate clearance between the air filter and right rear tire. For the clutch a 16 T Max-torque STX Clone clutch is the racers choice.

I agree, 15 degree mount... However, if you are running a tight 2 cycle chassis, a 13, 14, or 15 tooth driver may be necessary, and just run smaller rear gears to make the ratio...

Thanks for the info, When you say tight 2 cycle chassis you are concerned with the widith right? Would I want to get an angled motor mount that is offset then? It looks to me that the briggs eng mount would fit a clone is that correct?

Briggs mount is the same bolt pattern as the clone. This is the mount I like to use. www.bmikarts.com/shop/?shop=1&cat=166 It allows for plenty of offset if needed and fits both American and International frame rails. Paul - Please explain "tight 2 cycle chassis".

My cross bar is really close to the axle on my shifter chassis, so I can't run any bigger than a 64 tooth rear sprocket. So, I run a smaller driver gear in order to accommodate the smaller axle gear... For example, I would not be able to run, say, a 68/16 combo, which is 4.25 ratio... So, in order to get close to a 4.25 ratio, I could run 55/13, which would be 4.23, 60/14 = 4.29, 64/15 = 4.27... So, I can get close to the 4.25 ratio, while stile keeping within 64 teeth max in the rear...

I agree with Karl, get the BMI 15 degree mount, most of us are running it if not al of us and it's cheap at $40. It will give you plenty of options for mounting on a Euro chassis.

thanks for all the info. That mount looks good and its about 35$ cheaper than anything else I had seen.
Next payday I will start putting a clone together.

I can only find info on the max-torque SS clutch. Would someone help out a poor clutchless guy with a clone? Thanks, -Tom
