Hi All, I missed the coupon in the Harbor Freight flyer in the newspaper for the 6.5 engine and would love it if someone has an extra. Gotta get my son's clone started!

What is the difference between the HF motors and the Box Stock motors from places like ARC? Other than the difference in price $100 vs $300ish. Considering the dismal turnout so far this season for both F200s and WFs I am seriously contemplating getting a clone so I can race with someone. No, I'm not giving up my WFs but I may use them just for road racing for the remainder of the year if I can't get any of the WFs or F200s that I KNOW are out there to show up at the track on friggen race day.

The $300 ones start as $100 ones at ARC (or Gecker or wherever) and they add the nice linkage for the throttle, pull the low oil sensor and governator out, maybe add an exhast pipe and muffler and send it on it's merry way.
My impression to date is unless you are a real grease monkey it is easiest to start with something like the ARC kit. Then when you blow one up get the $100 HF motor cuz you already have all the other go fast goodies. I have heard you also have to tell ARC that the "blue HF" motors it what you want, so that Tom can put the right top plate on it for you to reuse in the future.

Keep in mind top plate is not interchangable between the yellow motors from ARC and the blue ones HF post 2009. If you start with a package from ARC, blow it up then buy from HF, you will need a different top plate.
If you start with a HF and take out the extended warranty, you get a new motor if you blow the the first one up inside of two years.
The prep of the HF motor is very easy. As paidroe302 says, Tom from ARC has posted some good videos.

What is the cost of buying the top plate, throttle linkage and anything else you need that comes from a preprepped motor?

The difference between the Yellow engines that are being shipped over for Kart racing (Ducar & Dupor) and the Blue Harbor Freight Greyhound's are consistancy in tolerances (quality control). It's more hit and miss with the H/F blues. Sometimes you get a good one, a real rocket, and other times you get one with the piston .040 in the hole and a crank that shakes so bad it rattles your teeth. The main difference in the top plates are between the engines with 4 bolt and 5 bolt valve covers. Yellows and early blues had 4 bolts and the newer Blues have 5 bolts. There is also a 3rd variation that fits some other oddball engine that I've never seen. If you get creative any top plate be made to fit an any of the engines with a little bending, drilling and/or addition of home made brackets. Arc parts kit $110.00 www.arcracing.com/servlet/the-14/Box-Stock-conversion-parts/DetailClone Clutch (16t) www.arcracing.com/servlet/the-19/centrifugal-drum-shoe-clutch/DetailBMI 15 Degree mount www.bmikarts.com/shop/?shop=1&cat=166This is really the best way to go. www.arcracing.com/servlet/the-5/Box-Stock-Project-BSP/Detail Don't order on-line from the store. Call and talk to Tom Cole and tell him what kind of racing you will be doing to order a complete race ready engine. These engines are checked over for consistancy, vital fasteners are re-torqued and all you need to do is add oil and go have fun.
