Oops - I think this thread tripped and fell into the WF category In response to Scott (Reply #13 above), excellent observations sir. For a new person looking to enter the 4-stroke sprint arena in NorCal, it wouldn't make a lot of sense to get into a class like F200 at this juncture when there is only one other driver to compete against (unless you are bound and determined to help build the class back up). Especially when WF has both RR and sprint covered nicely and the engines seem more reliable (OK, ARE more reliable). And of course it doesn't help F200's case that another motor expired over the past weekend (c'mon Scoots, dial it back a hair buddy!) I do appreciate you considering my kart recently but completely understand the decision to look elsewhere. Not a problem. But I digress. I think if you had come out and observed what was happening in F200 in 2006 and 2007 you may have had a different opinion though. It was THEE 4-cycle class in NOrCal and we had good kart counts and exciting racng front to back. We had the "bolt & go" drivers and we had the uber-tuners as well and everyone had someone to play with and karting life seemed pretty good at the time. Support was great and there were a lot of smiles going around. Somehow, life got in the way, people went their own direction, and the class slipped into legend (hmmm...sounds like a line from Lord of the Rings : . Bummer for F200 and worst of all, bummer for all of NorCal karting. I think 4-cycle karting NEEDS a higher-powered tinkerers class for us bleeding-edgers. I miss it a lot. We have five drivers who have raced so far at our two events that haven't been rained out. Looking forward to better weather! Wish the RAIN GODS would be happy and just go away until late late November when thay can make winter again. Paul and I(Scott Smith)are racing at Dixon, and two races in there. Sense early last season I stoped packing my spar motor using 8500 to 8600 as a max RPM. I'm just as fast at all the tracks we run at. Top speeds at Dixon have been between 66 and 67 MPH at the end of the strait, turns 1 and 2 are lots of fun.Shure I run all of the up date parts, wouldn't you? It seems like used motors sell for around $500. If you get one I would just replace the crank, replace rod bolts and bearings and come out and race with us. Racing with us is the same as most of the classes, The one who makes the least our no mistakes wins the race. Out of about 30 races I've stalled my motor two times. The first was my first race with the NFRA, I guess I was paying my dues. I think F-200 is the best, we just need some more too bring it on. ~Scott Smith (Scoots27)

Good luck with your F200 class. It is definitely a fun motor to run. I'd just suggest you don't consistently twist them past 8400. When we did that they were very reliable. When we started going much above that they became much less so.

Thanks Brad, Our class will be somewhat different to the standard. For a start it will be a one make only class, which will be the yf 200. Most of the other engines are not readily available anyways except the Honda. Secondly it will be a sealed engine. So it will only have one point of sale and and one point of repair, Ie where it was sold. The importer has agreed to meeting our strict guidelines for supplying the engine. Each engine will be tagged and sealed, with a tamper proof seal sealing the head to the body, so no internal work can be done to the engine. It still allows some minor works buy the owner but that is it. I know this is some what different to how you do things but from our experience its the best way to run a class.

That will definitely keep people from doing things like balancing cranks etc. (which people around here were doing once their motors started blowing up.) But the bigger issue is gearing. Without a limiter I think you find people will keep adding teeth for that little extra grunt out of the corners. We had some people going over 9600 rpm (w/balanced cranks). Tough to compete with that if you want to stay in the safe zone of <8400. Are you planning on a spec gear rule?

Hi Brad, no there will be no set gearing, but we are investigating an electronic plug in rev limiter which will limit it to 8200 RPM provided the electronic rev limiter can be rewritten? There is no point setting a gear ratio as that wont stop the engine revving, in all honesty it will probably cause more over revving.
Our guys are pretty careful with cash so if they start breaking engines they will soon stop over revving them anyway!

It is a stock Yamaha f200 motor. It has a Burris kit on it which includes an aluminum flywheel and stronger springs. The motor has an after market head which is called a bilmet head. The lash is set at .003, The valves are within 1.08 and .990 exhaust. Also included with the motor is a horstman clutch, exhaust pipe, air filter, motor mount, and chain guard. The motor has 3 races on it since it has been refreshed. This motor also has been teched many times and passed. I can assure with the purchase of this motor you will be satisfied.
