Hi All,
I have run into my first real problem putting my clone together. When I mounted the engine to the chassis ('08 Birel) the chain guard (ARC Racing) touches the seat upright and the lip on the edge of the seat (Tillet) blocks engine movement (for chain tightening).
I can't do any motor mount relocation or the sprockets (clutch and axle) can't be aligned properly.
So, I have three choices:
1) Bend the seat uprights away from the motor side approx. 1".
2) Cut the lip off the seat where it hits approx. 3" long.
3) Cut the chain guard (ARC Racing) to make it 1" narrower.
What do you folks think?
I'm leaning toward #3.
Thanks, Mark

Mark, Definitely option #3. Make sure you install your smallest rear gear on the axle ( 53/54 tooth ). This will slide the motor the farthest forward it would ever have to be. Then just continue to scribe and grind the guard until it fits. I found a small grinder with a course flapper disc works well. Leave at least 1/4" clearance between seat and guard for chassis flex

Option 3 seems to be the popular choice, even though ARC did a nice job designing these it's our job as clone racers to modify them to suit our needs, it's not exactly a one size fits all class.

ARC designed them for Eastern Oval karts, where the chain is zinging past your right ear, and your elbow hits the exhaust pipe... ARC are the only ones that make a chain guard this wide, there are other alternatives.
