For all that missed it and those that witnessed it, this was one for the ages. Talk about a battle royal! Myself, Scott Smith, and Dave Gwin had the mightiest of battles in the main event yesterday and even though I finished 3rd, I have to say it was the most fun I've ever had in all my years of karting.
According to people I spoke to after the race, the spectators were glued to the fence and going nuts watching us brawl it out on the track. I spun early on but was able to climb back up though the field. After my spin, Dave Gwin spun out of 1st and he had to climb through the field as well. Scott inherited 1st but on the 2nd to last lap, I caught him going onto the front straight. But Dave had caught us as well and we all got together and Dave somehow managed to grind his way through the both of us. Then at turn1 Dave got wide so both Scott and I tried to force our way through and we all touched but Dave still hung on. At the last corner of the last lap I tried to make a pass on Scott and got beside him going to the finish line bumping and grinding and he finished about half a nose ahead.
When we got over to the tech area everyone was going nuts, I was going nuts, Scott and Dave were going nuts. Everyone that was milling around was going crazy after what they had just witnessed. There were hi-5's and hugs all around from all the competitors and people. What a race! It truly was the race of the day. I think people really stood up and took notice of the 4-cycle group today.
Thanks everyone for the awesome good time and help over the weekend. Thanks again Brad for getting us front row paddock spots. That was really great to be able to watch the races from our pit spot (except for the "crack" incident).
Brad H and Ron - you guys gotta come to the Davis X-Over. It should prove to be another racous event! ;D
