Hi All,
My Clone kart is pretty much all put together, except for some instrumentation (Mychron). Next, I need to add gas, oil, start it up and break it in.
I have a Yellow clone engine (from ARC Racing). Looking from the pull starter side of the engine, it has two orange plastic caps. The one on the right (the front of the kart) has a little dipstick. The other one on the left (the back of the kart) doesn't.
Do I put the oil in the left side, right side, or either/both?
Also, each side of the engine has a small (10 mm) metal cap at the base. I'm guessing that this is where you would drain the oil out. Am I correct? Again, drain from the left, right, either/both?
Lastly, what are peoples' favorite motor break-in strategy? I've been told/read:
Just let it idle for 15-20 minutes ... change the oil, you're done.
OR
Let it come up to temperature at idle, rev it up for a few seconds... change the oil, you're done.
What do you folks find works for you?
Thanks, Mark
P.s., Thanks for all the help!

The engine sits on an angle. Fill from the highest point and drain from the lowest. I use 15 oz 30w non-detergent oil with 1 oz of Redline break in additive. I won't let the engine idle for more than a few minutes when first starting, just enough to give it quick once over and then right out on the track and run it, not real hard, but run it about 10 laps and change the oil. Drain into a clear bottle so you can check for flakes of metal. Refill and repeat 10- 20 laps at a time until oil comes out clean (usually 2-3 runs). Refill with 16oz of Redline 20w Race and go for it!
