Anyone else going to Thunderhill in a couple of weeks? There are already 7 WFs registered with I think as many as 4 or 5 more to come. Scott Smith was the lone F200 at Infineon. I'm sure he'd love to have some company.

So, did you put on rain tires and race? Either way, you had to drive to Willows... Even if to just get your rain check...

Rain tires? We dooon't need no stink'n rain tires. Against my better judgment I went out without wets (6 of 8 of us were on slicks). All I can say is yikes! It was dry up there until the drivers meeting started. Then a slight drizzle started. We were attempting to delude ourselves into thinking 'ah this will blow over' for the first 1:45 of practice. When it became apparent that wasn't going to happen we all went out for ONE lap of practice. If you go out for even one lap of practice your first race fees are blown. So, we all figured we'd go racing, rain tires, slicks, what the hell. I picked up a new helmet cam and shot some video. vimeo.com/4452840 It wasn't fully edited so the time on the grid gets a little boring. Once the race starts a couple of interesting things happen. BJ (on rain tires) lost his right rear wheel exiting from turn 3. You can clearly see it come off and shoot across the track. The really amazing thing was, he kept going until turn SIX! I managed to get by a couple guys by turn 8 and I'm just cruising along, minding my own business, driving nice and straight, and woooop! All of a sudden I'm neither driving straight nor in the same direction I was going. At that point I'm thinking WTF am I doing out here. LOL Second lap was pretty uneventful. In the Third lap turn 8 nearly eats me up again. Also in lap 3 Brian in the 76 kart goes zooming by me in turn 14. That one shot really demonstrates what a set of wets will do for you. And I'm taking anything away from Brian, he is a really good driver (we went 1-2 and 2-1 at Infineon in Feb). Past lap 3 I was pretty much in preservation mode hoping to bring my kart home in one piece. I didn't pass anyone and no one(without wets) got by me.

Ahhhhhh I'm not sure fun is the best way to describe it. LOL Maybe 10% funISH and 90% Holy Sh1T!!
By the end of the race there was all kind of debris on the track. At least TWO neck collars (exit of 4 and entry into 9), a tire off to the side, and muck/rocks from off road excursions.
Yeah I'm really happy with my camera at this point. It comes enclosed in a water proof case, which of course came in REALLY handy that day. The only thing I didn't think about is when in the case it is hard to pick up audio when doing things like driver intros etc. The video quality is MUCH superior to the Tony Hawk cameras (although it's hard to tell when shot on a cloudy dreary day). It also doesn't have the annoying habit of shutting off after 15 minutes or when there is excessive vibration. With this GoPro you slap a 2GB card in there and it gives you 56 minutes of video time.
If you aren't doing anything on the 31st you should come out to PC for the final Xover. We should have most of the F200s out there along with a couple new WFs and the clone pilots as well.

The other nice thing with that new camera is the audio and video are synced up. With the Tony Hawk camera they were not and watching the video was kind of annoying after a couple of minutes.
Nice job driving in the rain by the way!

Yes, synced video and audio is nice. One other feature, that I wasn't sure I was going to like, is that it has an 170 degree view. I'm not super crazy about having a "fish eye" sort of view but it definitely allows you to see much more of what is going on around you. In fact, with it mounted on top of my helmet I can actually see the RPMs on my Mychron as well as drivers on the left and right. Next step is to get another camera and mount it pointed backwards.....so I can keep an eye on Paul W. D'OH!!
