My son (10yrs old) has a Jr1 too - we're REAL beginners though. So not sure he's ready - plus trying to balance ski trips baseball etc. Maybe later in the year.
I did just join BMKC - last year we just guest practiced at places so perhaps we'll concentrate on one track - get some more confidence etc.

I feel for you Nat ! Luckily the HPV-1 class took off around here so I only had to suffer the Comer for a year or so. My son has aged out of Jr-1 now, but I'm really interested to follow what might happen with Jr-1 clone. My son played with the clone cadet kart Karl and Jason at Dixon build a couple of years ago and just loved it. He said it was just so much fun to drive, I couldn't get him out of it.

So when you talk about clone Jr1 and 2 - we are talking NFRA series right? I am really really trying to commit to it myself and if I can get my 10yo to as well that would be great!
I just need to get some 6" YKCs for myself (he already has YKCs on his so is good) and we are set. I will get both restrictors to cover whatever the rules are. Not sure either of us will be ready for first race - but for sure the second at our newly joined BM club where we've had a little practice.
Oh - just thought about racing weights - neither of us have any - nor scales. Better figure that one out first. He's only 72lb - sounds like a lot of lead to buy!

Hi Mike,
My boys will be running Jr1 and Jr2 at BM. We will get to as many NFRA races as we can but I know there will be several we will have to miss. Hope to see you out at the track!

After running the math and the bathroom scales I realize I have to add almost as much lead weight as my son! I think I might wait another year for him to heavy up a bit - I can lift his kart on my own just about now but pretty sure I could not with him sitting in it. Maybe in a year or two he could help me lift it. Getting the kart to person ratio a bit lower would make me more comfortable.

Mike....Let me be the first one to commend you on a very difficult decision. I have felt (and stated) the fact in the past that somebody 'should be' concerned about that very thing.....ie: driver to weight ratio. It's one thing to put these young kids in a kart and go racing, however.... the powers-that-be and the parent(s) should be realizing of what can happen when the kart ends up on top of the kids! As for your decision, your boy can learn and gain alot by just getting seat-time and practice this year without the extra weight, or until he grows big enough to meet your comfort zone. Good Luck, have fun.....and, a very wise thought for safety.
