I posted this elsewhere on the NFRA boards, but since it is clone related I will cross-post here. The Burris Nationional Speedway Series rulebook (The same rulebook we follow for F200) now has added "section 12: Clone Technical Specifications" to the rulebook. It is an "inclusive" set of rules tha essentially allows all forms of clones available today, red ones, blue ones, yellow ones, black ones etc. It is available at www.burrisnationalspeedwayseries.com/v03/rulebook/2009/BNSS2009_Rules_Section12.pdf

I haven't bothered to check, but I wonder what the differences are, if any, between the BNSS rules, and AKRA or WKA.

My interpretetation is that BNSS rules are slightly more relaxed than AKRA or WKA, so that if it is AKRA legal then it is BNSS legal, and if it is WKA legal then it is BNSS legal. That's what I meant by it being an "Inclusive" set of rules.

Prior inquiries to me from the clone drivers were, what rules to run. I didn't have the answer. This provides the rules. WKA rules mention B&S Stock Raptor 5 HP engine, B&S Stock Animal Engine, B&S Animal Modified, B&S World Formula Engine, and B&S Local Option 206 engine. What category does Clone fall under if any? If none, then the BNSS or other rules would apply.
However, if you race at Davis with your group of people you know and are comfortable with, we will work with you to get enough laps in and some good practice racing, and we can coordinate some tech if you want. Keep in mind if you are racing with your friends and family on an experimental basis, you just need to have your clone stuff together (with an agreement of what you are running to make it fair), and a place that will let you race. Blue Max will let you race.

Ron - The BNSS rules would be the best ones to use at Davis, as that ruleset is not tied to anything like insurance or whatever. The only mod you would need to make is tires, the BNSS ruleset calls for Burris tires.
The Briggs Local Option 206 motor is the Briggs answer to the clones from a business standpoint, I am not aware of any attemt to make them performance equivalent to the clones. The clones are spepcifically design copies of the Honda 6.5 HP GX-200 engine, copied so closely that parts are mostly interchangeable. Hence the name "clone". I would think the Briggs design would be excluded. The Briggs deal has a simple ruleset:
1) The LO206 engine comes from the factory sealed. If the seal is intact, the motor is legal, if the seal is broken the motor is illegal. 2) See rule #1

So what engine is the clone. I have no clue what it is. Is it a Briggs, Honda, or something else.
I am not trying to tell them what rules they have to run. As with F200 we let the F200 group handle their rules. The same would apply to them if they want to do tech. Frankly if they are all friends and family and just want to race to learn and don't care about tech rules then they can race to get experience.
Man if it is a slow day with minimal karts we can work with the Director and track officials to try and give them practice starts etc, since most are new racers (ie., all "x" racers). How many "x" racers start on pole and off-pole. When I qualified off-pole two different times I screwed it up each time. I can only imagine the stress being on pole with an "x" on.
I think this would be a great way for them to learn. Unfortunately I haven't heard from any of them to see if they want to race.

The clone is a Chinese copy of a Honda 6.5HP GX200. You can get them at Harbor freight for $129 , occasionally on sale for $99.
You disable the governor and take out the "low oil sensor" and bolt it on your kart. Most rules allow replacing the muffler (that is pointed at the driver) with a low cost exhaust pipe (that is pointed somewhere else).

The first race for the Dixon clones is going to be on 7/12. There is a thread on the Norcal board norcalkarters.com/forum.htm entitled "Does anybody race the honda clone motors" that I would LIKE to respond to but since Chris seems to have banned me I can't. Maybe someone can post there with a couple of links back to the clone discussion here and maybe we can get the Dixon clone guys together with Duffy and his crew? Duffy, are you guys going to race at Davis this weekend?
