Wow, your post on the Norcal board lasted a long time Brad. LOL
Duffy, I'm not sure what other clones with be there at Davis this weekend. My intent in asking Brad to post on the norcal board was to see if we could hookup with Dan (the Dixon clone guys) and Greg (a lone cloner) and see if maybe they would want to race. Unfortunately, Brad's post was deleted by the moderator.
Even if there are only 4 of you racing I'd highly recommend doing the race, if for no other reason to get a feel for how the race day works (for qualifying, gridding up for the heat/main, race start etc.) Most people get more than a little nervous on their first race and it would be good to get that out of the way before PC.
I was going to volunteer to work the race but I'm not sure if they need help or not. Otherwise, if you guys are going to race I think I might head out there to give you any kind of help I can (just don't let me touch tools LOL)

Hi guys, I'm one of the Dixon 'old men' that built a clone and have yet to race it. I can't make Davis this weekend, but am aiming to race at Dixon in July if we have critical mass. If anyone wants to have a clone meet and practice before July, I would be up for that. Probably have to be at Davis as the Dixon bugs are out in force at the moment.
Simon (never raced a kart before in his life!)

Welcome Simon. Any thoughts about maybe racing at the PC Xover? There should be a pretty good showing in the clone class that day so it should be fun. We are going to heading out there next Sunday (5-24) for some testing. You're more than welcome to come out and join us. ;D

Hey Brad, I'll certainly be at the PC x-over as my son runs HPV-1, if i feel enthusiastic enough to run his and my kart (and can pile both into the back of the truck) I might join the fun, but given our lack of experience at PC I might just stick with running his kart.
Practice next week eh? That's tempting. What's a good starting point for gearing at PC with a clone ?
If I don't make it I'll certainly come and track you down at the x-over and say 'hi'.
Simon.

Sorry but I have NO idea what a good starting point would be for gears at PC with a clone. None of the clones I've seen run have a tach so I'm not even sure they were geared properly for Davis. If we knew what the proper gearing is for Davis we could make an educated guess as to what should be run at PC and Dixon. Now, if you want to know the gearing for F200s and/or WF I could tell ya. ;D

Brad - What is the WF gearing for PC (driver/sprocket)?
Simon, It's about 150rpm per tooth IIRC. Assuming a target of 5500rpm that's 1600rpm lower than the WF. So about 11 sprocket teeth less than the WF using the same driver as Brad. Adjust the sprocket size for your driver and you will have a starting point for testing.
The other thing to check is to make sure the revs aren't too low in the slow speed corners. With a hard rev limiter, Brad and John have to deal with this so they might have some tips.

Do these clones have the ARC flywheel? I am not sure what spec everyone is building to here locally, but I am pretty sure you don't want to see over 5000 RPM with the stock cast flywheel. What we can use as the key is that the max RPM on the big straight should be at about the same physical point on the track as where the WF rev limiter kicks in, probably around the start/finish line. Given the same entry speed to the straight, I bet you could run exactly the same gearing as a WF to start, and adjust from there.

I hate to drum up a old thread, but what rules are you guys running for the clones, are you following a sealed rule or a BNSS rule or 15 karts is nice

We're running the "have lots of fun" rules where there are always more smiles per mile. Seriously though, all of the tracks we race at now run a clone class so we go by the hosting club's clone rules. You will find that most of them follow pretty close to the AKRA Box Stock Project's "Senior Box Stock" rules as were first adopted in this area by the Kinsmen Kart Club. The main variation from AKRA rules is the weight at 350 or 360# depending on the club. AKRA runs much heavier at 375#. Most of the clubs now have clone rules posted on their website or you can view the AKRA rules here at karting.4cycle.com/showthread.php?t=215310~Karl PS - Kinsmen's clone rules for 2010 have not been updated on their website or forum yet. If anyone has any questions on clone rules please feel free to contact me at Karlznet@aol.com
