I was talking old cars with a "very experienced" mechanic recently and the topic turned to the lead substitutes that came out soon after CA banned leaded gasoline. He would add Marvel Mystery Oil to the gas tank (goggle it). I've used Marvel's as dashpot oil in my Spitfire and to protect the cylinder bore when storing an engine. It got me thinking. Marvel's would be a much better choice than gasoline, oil (or brake fluid ) when checking the pop-off pressure. It won't damage gaskets/seals and it burns just fine.

Don't put it in your gas tank, it will get your fuel called illegal if it gets checked.
I have always used WD-40 to check pop-off. Marvel mystery oil is what we are supposed to use when checking the cc's of the head.

A thinner fluid is recommended such as WD-40.. Marvel is just Auto Trans fluid mixed with "Oil of Wintergreen".. No more mystery..
BTW, we carry the pop off testers, Pop off springs and most ALL carb related tools for karts.
