Congrats to Brad Wonder for his stunning "Clean Sweep" in our NFRA World Formula! Yea..... For me, next weekend will be.. Cora on the 6th, Dixon on the 7th Reno on the 13th then back to Cora on the 20th. That still gives me an open weekend on the 27th and 28th. Am I missing something? I was glad to see all of you at last weekends race, hope to see you soon. Scott Smith 27

Agreed, that was a fun day. Thanks to the Leo and the Davis crew, they always look after us well and that's much appreciated.
Maybe next time I should not be so lazy and actually change my gear ratio to see if it would make me go faster ! Losing to Brad by 0.078 in the 2nd heat and 0.343 in the main shows how close the racing was. Well done Brad, nicely driven !!!

Thanks Scott, but like Simon said, the "way to go" award goes to Mark for his first win! WoooooHOOOO! Scott also managed the sweep in his class so he gets a WoooooHOOOO! too!! ;D Other mentionables... Terry Ives made it out for his first race with us. Ol' TI had me laughing my, errrr, behind off most of the day. Good to see Luis as well. Glad to hear both will be joining us for future races. As previously mentioned a big thanks goes out to the BMKC. During the lunch break we hear over the PA system that all NFRAers shall report to the scoring tower. After the first thoughts of OK, who left the seat up in the portie potty, we all agreed that we couldn't have done anything toooo bad, so we reported as ordered. Turns out they wanted to have a special raffle just for us as their thanks for showing up. How cool is that? Several FastTech gift certs were won along with a couple of free race passes for a future race AND a bottle of bubbly! Thanks BMKC.... Tires-look for a poll tonight regarding tires for the WF class. Cool story of the day. After the trophy presentation we are hanging out in the bleachers having some cold ones and we see this kid picking up recyclables. I recognized the kid as the one who was talking TI's ear off earlier. The bottom of his bag is leaking basically all over to him so I yell over that he is getting all wet. So he (and his mom) come over and start chatting. We ask what he does with all the money he gets for the bottles and cans. He says karting! Turns out he collects all this stuff so he can pay his race fees. His mom says yup, that's right, and he bought his kart with the money he has collected. She said she refuses to user her own money for his karting hobby (but in a NICE way, more like my kid is going to learn the value of a dollar). He is all official with a bank account where all his recycle money goes and he makes regular deposits. I asked him how old he is....he says, "I'm seven". How often do you hear of something like that these days?.... Simon, so where is that video man?? ;D Being that race is probably going to be my highlight of the season I'd love to see that. That way when you guys are back to spanking me I can play that video and tell myself, well, there was that onnnnnne day...

I've got some pics and Terry was nice enough to send me some as well. Looks like we are going to have multiple POTWs this time around. Now, videowise, come on Simon, yer killing me man! LOL So what did you do different in the main? Inquiring minds want to know!

I'll try and do the video this evening. Yes, the kid karter collecting recyclables to fund his racing was very impressive. Too many kids (mine included) in expensive sports that take a hell of a lot for granted when it comes to how much things cost and how hard money actually is to come by. That family have their heads screwed on the right way round, props to them !

The rest of the story:
In heat race 1 I managed to squeeze past Terry in turn 1, only to have her take the lead back immediately in turn 2. I followed her around for the rest of the heat.
I realized that if I could just get past her in the second heat, that I would have the inside lane in the main. And, MAYBE she would have to follow me around!
I did manage to pass her in heat 2 at the hairpin. Once I got even with her in the turn (just before turn-in to the apex), she was kind enough not to mash into me. THANKS Terry.
The main started just as I expected. I got a very small jump on Terry at the start. And, I did have the inside lane, so..., I thought that my plan was working!
Then, BOOM out the blue the kart in front of me (I think it was Alex) spun right in front of me in turn 1 on the first lap. I grabbed the brakes and turned to avoid driving right over the spinning kart. Unfortunately for Terry I knocked both of us off into the grass.
We both drove back onto the track, BUT, Terry was in front of me. So much for the plan :-(. I was able to get past her again. And it seemed a little too easy. Later we found out that one of her tie rods had been bent in the accident. This caused her to run a little slower, and I pulled out a good lead.
I never saw the other clone again (Alex?). So, I figured he had won the race. Much to my amazement, he had DQed and I won.
I wish I could say I won through superior tuning and driving, but that isn't the case. I think I was just lucky on this one.

Don't sell yourself short Mr. Mark! Great job staying in there, making the adjustments and persisting! You did a great job and have a well-deserved win! I'm just going to straighten myself, uh, I mean my tie rod out and then here I come right after you!
