Yesterday's race at PC marked the 3rd and final race of the 2009 Xover series. While it was a long day, Gary ran the show with his usual efficiency with a minimum downtime.
Yesterday was the first time the BSCs joined us and I think almost everyone had a really fun day. I think a few of us had some concerns about speed differentials between the F200s/WFs and the BSC packages but from what I saw it wasn't a big deal at all. Yes, the BSC are slower, but they are added an element that I throughly enjoyed.
In fact, it was because the BSCs were out there that the main event was the most fun (or a very close second) I've ever had in a kart. I was on pole and John was off-pole to start the race. I managed to get the lead in turn 1 with John in close pursuit. By about lap 7 I came up on the first BSC and managed to get around them without losing the lead. Next lap, coming onto the straight I came up on the next one. Only THIS time I screwed up and took the wrong line. I see this kart charging up on my left and I KNEW it was John. He goes by and I'm screaming in my helmet that God !@()(@)()(# F()(#() John! LOL All of a sudden I'm in full on chase mode with the adrenaline pumping like it hasn't for a while.
He had such a good run on me on the pass I had no chance to catch him before turn one. OK, fine, patience..... Come down into turn 1 the next lap and I had jusssst a nose on the inside but backed out because I didn't have the position. Next lap, same thing, alllllmost have the position but not quite. Now I'm thinking holy crap, next lap is the white flag...time to go! After being denied the inside on the previous two laps I figure I'm going to have to pass him on the OUTSIDE of turn one. So we both go barreling into turn 1 full speed with him on the inside and me on the outside (queue severe pucker factor at this time). We go through turn 1 AND 2 side by side at full speed and I manage to eek out the pass in turn 3. Now THAT was fun!
We come into the whooping and high fiving thinking that all that action was on video. Alas, that isn't the case. Before the award ceremony PaulV asked if I could take some pics. My video camera also takes 5MP stills and I thought sure, I can do that. Unfortunately I've never take a picture with the d**n thing and have NO idea how it works (other than video). So I start pressing buttons like a test monkey and hell if I didn't delete everything INCLUDING all the driver introductions I did earlier AND the friggen race. C o u l d n o t b e l i e v e it.
