Hello, I am new to karting and recently bought my 12 year old daughter a used roller chassis. I am now looking for a used complete clone motor. I am reluctant to buy a new one right now as I want her to have some seat time and make sure she likes it before the investment.
If anyone out there has a complete used clone motor please let me know. I am in the east Bay Area.
Thank you,
Ryan

Hello Ryan (welcome to the NFRA, and karting)....If I might ask, how much (little) are you looking too spend on a used motor? Be very careful on buying 'used'! You can get a complete 'new' motor package for about $500.

Hello, thanks for the reply and the welcome. There is a ton of information within this forum. Very useful! I was able to locate a motor. Now I need to get a clutch, what size is typical for a clone at Kinsmen? Would the same size work at Stockton?
Thanks, Ryan

Your best bet at this time wud be too get a 14 or 15T unit for the class your daugther will run in when ready. The Hilliard 'Fury' is the best, but you have 'many' too pick from and all will work fine. You will probably want too get rear sprockets from 56-60T. JMO

Great, I appreciate all the information. I apologize for some of the basic or maybe even ignorant sounding questions. This is all still pretty new to us. I am thankful for this forum and all the information.
Thanks again, Ryan

Hey Ryan, ask as many questions as you want ! We were all new to karting at one point and there is no such thing as a dumb question. I remember when I started with my son we made a load of silly choices and mistakes that could have been avoided if I could have had some questions answered early on.

My son ran Jr1Clone. His class used the purple restrictor. I assume your daughter will be the blue restrictor. We used the Max Torque Clone Clutch which is the basic clutch used by a lot of racers. Pretty indestructible for the kids as they learn and relatively inexpensive to replace during the learning process.
You can use different drivers and I typically used a 15 tooth or 16 tooth. At Kinsmen he ran a 16:62 (this depends on cam and carb setup), which is equivalent of a 15:58 if that is the driver you have.
If you have any questions feel free to ask. You can even email me skydivingrlc at yahoo dot com
