It has come to my attention that new RLV Clone mufflers are being ditributed in NorCal with an assurance that they are legal. This is only partially correct.
The rules are cast for 2010, with the Briggs 3HP muffler being the only legal choice. Period. Let me be crystal clear, if you show up up at any of the races this year with anything other than a Briggs 3 HP (weiner) muffler, you may or may not get a courtesy warning to change it in practice, and DQ'd beyond practice....
For 2011 the RLV muffler may be legal (much to my chagrin). I have not seen the 2011 AKRA rules yet. Buying the RLV one before the rules come out in print potentially is buying a fancy paperweight.

gee thanks....just kidding! But......based on yesterdays results, I think we Q'd #1 by over 1/2 second w/ the RLV muffler after which Karl (politely) informed us that the RLV has not been approved by the club. We choose to DQ ourselves and started at the back of the pack in the Heat race.......still with the RLV muffler as we had to dismount the motor and chain guard in order too remove the entire pipe assembly (just becuz)....hence, we (Ryan) started last and finished 4th or 5th (??). Ok, so....still being 'not-legal' in the Heat race, we again DQ'd ourselves, changed over too the 'stock weiner' muffler and started 'again' at the back of the pack in the Main. Guess what.....he finished 4th-5th "again"! You be the Judge....is there a preformance advantage, or is this thing 'just for looks', is it quieter (No), orrrrrr is RLV (Art V/IKF Director) just lining pockets.....again? If I didn't already purchase the one I have, I would save the money and utilize it for something I NEED. If you really think you need one of these things....you can buy mine 'cheap'.....then, i'll still thump ya w/ the weiner....ha ha ha! Really.....we don't need this kind of c**p from the powers-that-be at this level.....thank you very much!

Please notice I did not name names, my supposition was after yesterday you and everyone else that raced at Dixon knew the score. My post was for the other 15 or so folks that have bought one of those muffs (yes lining Arts pockets) thinking they were legal for this season.
Until you see a written revision to any rulebook (not just ours), there is no revision. There are few thngs that will kill a karting class quicker than confusion about rules, and changing rules mid-season. My post was merely an attempt to eliminate both of those possibilities.
I appreciate the fact that you recognized the issue, and DQ'd yourself proactively. That says a lot about your character.
I also appreciate your consistent performance throughout the day. However mine is not to judge whether the two parts are of equal performance or not. I just lean back on the rulebook and say weiner = legal, RLV = not legal for now. No debate of performance adavantage either way is required.

That's interesting....i'm always suspicious I guess, but WHO will make out best on the Billet flywheel? Has any body blown one up, or know of that happening at the BSP level? Not by intent....but ours was wing'n along at over 6100 Sunday in the Main (w/ the weiner muffler) and still has everything in the same places. It just kinda gets "my attention" when these (censored) guy's decide too put their hands deeper in my pocket! For what 'their muffler and flywheel' cost....we could by a COMPLETE motor!! Really....what we should do is put a petition together and challenge those rule changes.....any taker's?

My point here is that if people are looking to buy this "thing" for added HP, I've proof that their wasting their $$$. If they're buy'n it for looks....so be it! Based on "principles", i'll stay w/ the ugly muffler. PS....Sunday was a fun day....except 4 Rich's 'ride'!!

I think the pipe and flywheel are a great idea for those who want to run a super box, the idea got tossed around but I've yet to see anyone put one together, yet alone get the class off the ground, maybe if someone would put more effort in in getting something going with that class and leave the rest of us alone they may have more sucess in selling parts we dont want or need in BSP, I'm with you Caz.

invaderkart64 - Really? Hangs with the Animals's at Atwater? From what I remember at last years GR race, the atwater animals were exactly that... Animals! Those guys were frickin' fast! Would you mind sharing what a motor with those specs cost to build? Also, what kind of rpm's were you seeing and what clutch were you running? (especially going into the bowl turn after the dog-leg).

Just a little heads up on that RLV clone muffler, in my track testing the cheap mild steel threaded flange busted at the threads on that piece of crap, I noticed a bit of a performance pick up after it broke off, lucky for me I use a clamp on safety feature so it dident end up in someones lap or setting the infield on fire but it did melt a hole in my catch can hose while hanging there, nice job RLV, great product. NOT! Oh and that was within 30 laps at Dixon, thankfully scoots was there with his Vampire and had a hammer so I could get the broken piece out of my header so I could put on my weiner and finish the day, thanks Scoots!!
