Several Prairie City kart drivers have been looking for a dirt track in the Sacramento area. Most dirt racing has been at the Chico or Dixon tracks. Yesterday we drove karts on the Prairie City dirt track located next to the PC sprint track. The dirt track is set up for speedway bikes and quads.
Four karts ran several sessions for a $25.00 fee. We had 2 clones, 1 tag and 1 KT100 running their normal sprint kart chassis setups. The only changes were tire (2 used rain tires) and gear changes (smaller front sprocket and larger rears.
The drivers had a blast and have been invited back to run an exhibition race on 9/15/12 at their speedway night race. If any of you would like to join us you are welcome. Maybe we can get Scott (scoots) to show up and show us what a real dirt tracker can do. The plan is to start racing for cash there on a regular basis.
I will post more information as it becomes available.

Today I talked to the track owner who said that karts are welcome to practice there during normal practice hours (Tues. nights 5-8p.m. & Sundays.) No karts when motorcycle racing is scheduled.
Later on if we get about 6 karts that want to run then they can be added to the motorcycle events. If we get enough guys that want to run on the dirt then we can schedule our own events.
This is a small track where clones, animals, wf & F200's would work well there. This is a way to try driving on dirt. Just set your sprint kart up for rain and add gearing try around 6:1 ratio to start.

Last Saturday we ran box stock clones on the dirt at Prairie City. Go to youtube.com and enter mcgrem in the search box. Then watch the heats and main race. The karts didn't get as dirty this time.

The PC dirt track will be open for practice this Sunday 9/30/12 from 11:00am to 4:00 pm. Karts are welcome so come out and try driving the dirt at your own pace.

Stopped by on Sunday afternoon this weekend. The karts were practicing and it looked like fun. It was real casual with a wide variance of skill & machinery
The track is short and tight. They kept it really watered down. Extra HP does you no good out here. We as a group should try and get out there

Does anyone know if they will be running this Sunday with the Turkey shootout on Saturday at Cora? I will take my dirt kart out there and if any NFRA drivers besides Rich wants to go in circles meet us out there. It has a large lay-back seat mounted on it. I have 3 sets of used tires to run. It has a KT100 mounted on it, probably not a good engine for that type of track but we can still try it out.

Yes we will be running this Sunday 11/11 gates open at 10 and practice sessions begin at 11 . We have 10 clones confirmed and would love to have more, any motor welcome, and most of us just run old rain tires but burris dirts are also being run and hook up great,. The cost for practice is $25. Post any questions and i will answer, 5.0 ratio is close for clones give or take depending on conditions, thanks, can't wait.

This last weekend Don and I went out to the PC dirt track. Don was nice enough to let me drive his new KT powered dirt kart. The thing was a beast. I could not get it to turn left at all. ( see picture, I am in full lock left.)Sadly a frozen clutch cut our day short. We have to try this as a group. Had a great time, very casual. Once the the track dries out and gets a groove, slicks were as fast or faster than treaded tires. Big thanks to Don for the opportunity to drive the kart Attachments:

Kart was setup for the larger track at Cora, now we know that! Found the reason why the brakes were a little slippery. Just ordered $60 in new parts. Clutch locked up so that ended our day earlier than planned. Anyone have a used clutch for KT100 at a reasonable price? Pretty muddy, need to miss the first few rounds then go out after the track drys out. I think between the kart and the bed of my pickup I brought home about 10 lbs of dirt!

I could not get it to turn left at all. What would cause the not turning left. Is it just setup and the tires were not biting. If we brought out our karts, would we have similar problems?

Look at the picture. The rear tires are about 12" wide and the track was about what? 36" wide. When you set it on the ground all four wheels did not touch the dirt! Some weird dirt dojo going on there. We were going to try to widen the rear track but our day was cut short.
99% of the karts out there were regular sprint karts. Some had rain tires, two had Burris dirt tires, the rest had some combination of used tires. The same tuning changes you make at the sprint track still apply somewhat to the dirt. Bring some big gears and go for it ;D

As long as I don't have to buy dirt tires, make major changes etc, it sounds like fun. I need to get that seat changed on my kart.

the kart was set up too narrow for the smaller track. also the axle is adjustable up/down, front/back and the hubs in/out. So there is a little bit of a learning curve in the future. This kart does not have caster adjustment. I do not have the new brake parts so I will not be at PC this weekend, might be too wet anyway. Most guys were running 5" rain tires on sprint karts and sliding the corners. Slicks would work later in the day after the track dries out and gets a grove.
