First off, say it ain't so Ron! Even if your back isn't up to racing this weekend (although the weather might have a bigger say) I hope you can at least get a couple races in. I'm with y'all that things aren't looking good for this weekend. One forecast is calling for possible showers Sat and Sun and another is calling for Tstorms. Arrrrg. I don't know NNKC's specific policies about race cancellations but I'd imagine that they'd wait till at least Sat to make the call. Of course we'd already be there by then. It would really suck to get up there only to have the race called and THEN have to drive back over the hill in thunderstorms and/or snow. Throw in gas cost (bout $200 for you with your trailer Simon?) and it makes for a double sucky weekend. So, what to do? 1) Do nothing and watch the forecasts tomorrow and even into Fri morning. If things change drastically (as in rain goes out of the forecast) we go. If not we don't race. 2) Reschedule the race. Their next race is 7/3 (yes, 4th of July weekend-but the forth is on Monday at least). That would also give us back to backs with Monterey. We are already there in Aug for the night race and our schedule is so back loaded that we most likely won't have time to run there any other time this year. 3) Pack the beer and hit the road regardless. ;D Can't say I'm terribly enthusiastic about this one, regardless of the beer part. LOL

If we're voting, I vote 1 & 3. We're not going to get stranded in the snow (KC life sentence if we do) and assuming the club will run a damp track (I'm assuming it will be warm enough to dry up any showers really quick) we should go for it.
Can we talk to the club ? What was last weekend like with ProKart ? The forecast is much better than that for last weekend.

I am sure I will get plenty of racing in this year. Yesterday my oldest had his last baseball game and I was sore, but not incapacitated, afterward. I have a game tomorrow and Saturday for my youngest. After Saturday's 3 pm game I have a awards ceremony for my kids, and then a dinner function to attend. I am then packed to head to Reno to at least watch.
I am going to stay at a family member's house just in case my back gives me any problems Saturday night. I think the worst part on my back will be the couple hour drive over the summit.
Who knows, maybe I will miraculously get better tomorrow. Then with my luck it will rain out.
Voting, I would side with Simon on 1 & 3. I don't even know how NNKC handles rainouts. They have a June 18 rain out date. If it rains out this weekend, and they don't race on June 18, can we still say race is on for 7/3?

I like #1, can possibly swing #2 and am in for the beer part of #3 I am going to be very cautious about trying the pass with a trailer and my 2 kids. If it even thinks about rain/snow through Donner i am likely to bail (KC fines or not!). It is just not worth the risk. I'll be watching the doppler!

If you get caught in an uncomfortable situation with snow, and chains are being used by truckers, you simply follow the trucker. They will clear the path for you with the chains making driving easier. They also will not be going overly fast.
We were in that snow storm a few weeks ago with lots of snow on the summit and it really wasn't that bad. Slow and steady.

Spoke with Travis this morning. He says things aren't looking good for this weekend. With the weather forecast as it currently stands he said if he were us he probably wouldn't be making the trip.
NNKC typically waits until the morning of the race to decide whether or not they call the race. He is going to call Jess (the pres) and find out what his plan is and will be calling me later today or tonight.
Personally, while I'm generally up for this sort of adventure, if I had an open truck hauling all my stuff, had a LONG way to travel, or had a trailer and a couple of kids with me I'd take a pass on this trip. If we have half or more of us not going because of the threat of weather I question how much sense it makes for the rest of us to go.
Just my 2 cents.

Yes, it's starting to sound a bit of a risk to gamble with the weather and hope for a reasonable turnout. I was relucant to let this one go as I could not make the possible alternate early July date.

When we set this up I really wanted to go and the kids are still really excited about the prospect. But as I shiver my way through early morning chores here in the valley I can't help but think how cold it's going to be up in Reno at night. That said I'd still go for it if it wasn't for the idea of snow travel with my menagerie in tow. I guess I'm becoming stuffy in my older parenting years. I start to worry about my ability to manage in a heavy snowfall, etc....If I freeze the kids I have a lot of explaining to do!!!

Brad, if they rain out are they going to use the June 18 date as the makeup? That's an option if they are.

Boy this weather is a pain in the rear.
I've been watching the forecast all day and it is seemingly looking more promising. This morning started off breezy and cloudy with some drizzles. The afternoon finished off sunny and calm. Tomorrow(friday) will be interesting to see.
With that said, Brian told me that the Race is On and we are proceeding as planned. I will be in contact with you folks tomorrow and keep you updated through Brad. I am going to reserve you guys a bunch of pit spots together and plan for the best case scenario.
It is supposed to be in the mid 60's on Sat and 70 on Sun.
I understand the need to be extra cautious considering all of you folks commute through the "Pass". Safety comes first...And if you aren't haveing fun, it ain't worth it.
Let's cross our fingers!
