Per intellicast Sat: chance of rain 40%; 51F-70F Sun: morning showers 40%; 50F-70F
Donner shows rain with a Saturday low of 38F so we can rule out snow. That's something, at least.

Special weather advisory from the National Weather Service....
SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SACRAMENTO CA 545 AM PDT FRI JUN 3 2011
CAZ013>019-063-064-066>069-040045- SHASTA LAKE AREA / NORTHERN SHASTA COUNTY- BURNEY BASIN / EASTERN SHASTA COUNTY-NORTHERN SACRAMENTO VALLEY- CENTRAL SACRAMENTO VALLEY-SOUTHERN SACRAMENTO VALLEY- CARQUINEZ STRAIT AND DELTA-NORTHERN SAN JOAQUIN VALLEY- MOUNTAINS SOUTHWESTERN SHASTA COUNTY TO NORTHERN LAKE COUNTY- CLEAR LAKE/SOUTHERN LAKE COUNTY- NORTHEAST FOOTHILLS/SACRAMENTO VALLEY-MOTHERLODE- WESTERN PLUMAS COUNTY/LASSEN PARK- WEST SLOPE NORTHERN SIERRA NEVADA- 545 AM PDT FRI JUN 3 2011
...SHOWERY UNSTABLE AND COOL WEATHER THIS WEEKEND WITH MORE SNOW AT THE HIGHEST ELEVATIONS...
A COLD FOR THE SEASON LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM OFF THE COAST WILL BRING COOL SHOWERY WEATHER THROUGH THE WEEKEND. SOME LIGHT SHOWERS WILL MOVE INTO NORTHERN CALIFORNIA AS EARLY AS TODAY...BUT MOST OF THE SHOWER ACTIVITY WILL BE CONFINED TO AREAS WEST OF INTERSTATE 5. AS THE LOW BEGINS TO EDGE TOWARDS THE COAST ON SATURDAY...MORE WIDESPREAD SHOWERS ARE EXPECTED. GENERALLY ONLY LIGHT SHOWERS ARE EXPECTED SATURDAY BUT SOME HEAVIER SHOWERS ARE POSSIBLE ESPECIALLY OVER THE COASTAL RANGE.
MORE UNSTABLE CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED ON SUNDAY AS THE LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM EDGES TOWARDS THE COAST. HEAVIER SHOWERS ARE EXPECTED ESPECIALLY OVER THE COASTAL RANGE. SNOW LEVELS SHOULD REMAIN FAIRLY HIGH BUT THE HIGHEST ELEVATIONS OF THE SIERRA CASCADE RANGE...ABOVE ABOUT 7500 FEET...COULD SEE SEVERAL INCHES OF ADDITIONAL SNOWFALL SUNDAY. A GOOD CHANCE OF ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS ALSO EXISTS SUNDAY ESPECIALLY OVER THE MOUNTAINS. SINCE THE MAIN LOW IS FORECAST TO REMAIN OFF THE COAST SUNDAY...SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS ARE NOT EXPECTED. THE MAIN UPPER LOW IS FORECAST TO MOVE INLAND LATE SUNDAY AND MONDAY BRINGING A CONTINUED SHOWER THREAT.
DAYTIME HIGH TEMPERATURES THROUGH THE WEEKEND WILL RUN BETWEEN 15 AND 20 DEGREES BELOW NORMAL FOR THIS TIME OF YEAR UNDER THE COOL AIRMASS. PLENTY OF CLOUD COVER AT NIGHT WILL KEEP OVERNIGHT LOWS NEAR TO JUST A BIT BELOW NORMAL FOR THIS TIME OF YEAR.
So, what do we want to do? I'm not really worried about getting rained on in Reno (although it would suck if there was enough that we couldn't race), I'm more concerned about driving back. They SAY there shouldn't be any snow except at the higher elevations but then again, friggen chains were required just two days ago. And it isn't like the weathermen are never wrong.
I'd hate for a repeat of when I went up to watch one of their races last October. Cloudy here, little bit if drizzle over the pass, get there and while it wasn't raining at the track, the race had already been called and I got to turn around and drive home...by that time it was raining so hard over the pass I could hardly see out of my windshield. Luckily I was in the Vette and not in a fully loaded Sequoia hauling a trailer.

Lets give it until this afternoon, see what the forecast looks like then and make a call.
Who's definitely NOT going irrespective of what we decide ? Terry & Scoots you both sounded like you are out, correct ?

Luckily I was in the Vette and not in a fully loaded Sequoia hauling a trailer. I'd rather be in a loaded Sequoia hauling a trailer. When we came back on that weekend with the freak weather storm a few weeks ago the signs said chains required. So many did not have chains, did not have 4x4, and I am sure they did not have M&S tires, and they made it over the hill. That's why M&S with 4x4 is the way to go. I'm going unless the NFRA cancels.

If you are planning to hit the casinos after the race, heading home at 1am then worry about snow. Donner pass is 7000ft so a 5pm-8pm drive will be fine. The real question is: If we go, and if NNKC cancels, can we (NFRA) still run on track? We wouldn't race, of course, but I could see a bit of friendly competition occurring.

"COULD SEE SEVERAL INCHES OF ADDITIONAL SNOWFALL SUNDAY..." Yea, I'm thinking wether it's snow or rain I'm going to have to err on the safer side and sit this one out. It's one thing if it just happened to rain when we are heading to a race. Several inches of snow on sunday in the mountains sounds like a problem. The weather channel, national weather service, etc has a 70% chance of rain both sat and sun in Truckee or through the pass. So even if we do race we are likely to be heading home Sunday in inclement weather that is going to be cold. So rain at the least and possibly snow. I think that is stretching my resources after a long race day. If you all go have a great time! I'll take my KC fines if need be

Well if they cancel I would suspect that it would be because the track is wet. Do you want to go racing around on a wet track? When they cancelled the race in October the track was dry but the there was no one around and the facilities were locked up.

When they canceled the race in October the track was dry but the there was no one around and the facilities were locked up. We arrive Sat so we will already be inside the gate. Will we get the boot or can we go out on track if the club race is canceled? Oh, and my first time ever in a kart was at Sears Point driving through rain and hail. No issues rotating the kart on that day. ;D

Do they have any F200s in Reno. Otherwise I will just drive with the WFs.
Interestingly we are worried about Reno and PC already posted:
"Due to the current weather forecast of Isolated Thunderstorms, Tornados and Snow, the upcoming race on 6/5/2011 will be cancelled."

I'm staying home. A 6+hour round trip is to much for this old man. Driving back Sunday nite, all the way to Oakland with the wether from Sac. west to the bay will be no fun!

We raced in the snow three weekends ago in reno..... its fun,
When we were up there with a RV and trailer... they turned everyone around at the top of the summit (after sitting there for two hours)... But after it stopped snowing for a bit, we tried again and got over even with terrible road conditions... Good luck to all making the frosty trek.
